Choosing Between Standard and HV

Choose Standard Lithium-Ion if:

You have standard lithium-ion chargers and BMS (most common)
You want universal compatibility with existing equipment
Your application uses standard 3.6V nominal cells
You're building battery packs for general-purpose applications
Maximum cycle life is the priority

Choose HV Lithium-Ion if:

Your BMS and charger support HV cells (4.35V-4.4V charging)
You need maximum energy density in the 18650 format
Your application benefits from higher nominal voltage
You want increased runtime without adding cells
Your system is designed for HV cell operation

Best Practices for 18650 Cells

Charging:

Standard cells: Charge to 4.2V per cell maximum
HV cells: Charge to 4.35V-4.4V per cell maximum (verify cell specifications)
Always use appropriate lithium-ion chargers with proper voltage settings
Charge at 0.5C to 1C for optimal lifespan (faster charging reduces cycle life)
Use BMS (Battery Management System) for multi-cell packs
Store at 3.6V-3.7V per cell for long-term storage
Never exceed maximum charge voltage

Discharge and Usage:

Verify discharge current stays within cell specifications
Standard cells: Discharge to 2.5V-3.0V minimum
HV cells: Discharge to 2.5V-3.0V minimum (verify cell specifications)
Avoid over-discharge to maximize cycle life
Use appropriate BMS with over-discharge protection
Monitor cell temperature during high-current discharge
Balance cells regularly in multi-cell packs

Safety and Storage:

Store cells in cool, dry location (15-25°C optimal)
Keep away from metal objects that could cause short circuits
Use proper cell holders or insulation for loose cells
Inspect cells regularly for damage, swelling, or corrosion
Never use damaged, dented, or swollen cells
Dispose of damaged cells properly at designated recycling centers
Use fire-resistant storage containers for large quantities
Never expose cells to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight

Battery Pack Construction:

Match cells by capacity and internal resistance for optimal performance
Use spot welding for permanent connections (never solder directly to cells)
Include appropriate BMS for protection and balancing
Ensure adequate ventilation and thermal management
Use proper insulation between cells and pack housing
Test pack thoroughly before final assembly
Document pack configuration and specifications
